Walking is a vital sign

StepAnalyser turns a short walk into an objective gait report. A phone strapped to the patient's thigh records how the leg moves, the AI finds and measures every step, and the clinician gets a structured report to file, explain and compare at the next visit — with no lab, no markers and no treadmill.

A measurement that used to need a laboratory

How a person walks says a great deal about their health, and it changes long before anyone complains about it. But measuring gait properly has meant an instrumented lab: expensive, rare, and a referral away from the appointment where the change was first noticed.

StepAnalyser moves that measurement into the exam room. The patient walks a few metres with a phone on the thigh; the AI cleans the signal, marks every heel contact, lines the strides up and compares the walk against the patient's own baseline.

  1. The challenge

Gait is hard to measure in everyday practice

Watching a patient walk down the corridor gives an impression, not a measurement — and an impression cannot be compared with the impression from six months ago.

  2. The solution

A mobile app that reads every step

Accelerometer and gyroscope data from an ordinary phone is enough. The app records, finds each step, overlays the strides, compares with the previous visit and writes the findings up in plain clinical language.

  3. The impact

A quiet decline becomes visible early

Because every session lands on the patient's own timeline, a gradual change stands out long before it would be noticed by eye — and so does the effect of acting on it.

Inside the product

Three StepAnalyser screens: starting a measurement, the analysis detail with an acceleration chart, and the list of past measurements
01The app

Measure, analyse, compare

A session moves through three screens. The clinician starts a measurement and the patient walks; the analysis shows the cleaned acceleration signal with every step marked; and the measurement list keeps each walk on the patient's own timeline.

That last screen is where the value is — a single walk is a snapshot, a series of them shows the trend.

What we built

  1. 01Gait analysis from smartphone sensorsAccelerometer and gyroscope data captures the walking pattern without markers, force plates or a treadmill.
  2. 02An AI report after every walkWalking rhythm, left/right balance and change since the last visit, summarised for clinicians rather than for engineers.
  3. 03Patient timelines and baselinesEach session is compared against the patient's own baseline, so slow change is visible across routine check-ups.
  4. 04Privacy by design, and exports for researchConsent is recorded before capture and identifiers are kept apart from the walking data; structured exports carry it into records and studies.

An objective gait assessment in your own exam room

StepAnalyser makes a measurement that used to require a gait lab part of an ordinary appointment — for preventive medicine, geriatrics, physiotherapy, neurology, sports medicine and orthopaedics.
